You can categorize pages into groups using the Content Groups dialog box. For example, if you are working with a large corporate site, you might create groups called News, Corporate, Products, and Orders. Then you would specify the URLs that you want to include in each group by defining patterns. Patterns are simply definitive parts of a URL. If the URL matches one of the patterns, it is associated with the group.

To add a Content Group definition, follow these steps:

  1. From the WRC AdminConsole, select Advanced Features, then the Content Groups tab.

  2. Click Add.

  3. In the Name text box, type the name of the Content group to be added.

  4. Click Next.

  5. In the Page Expression text box, type the file name or text string identifying the content group to be tracked. You can use * and ? as wild cards.

  6. To specify that your entry is a regular expression, select the Regular Expression check box. Click Test to see how the expression works on a sample string.

  7. If you are specifying dynamic pages, you may need to use URL Parameter Analysis to help identify the page. WebTrends software uses URL Parameters to help define dynamic pages you want to track. To add a new URL parameter, complete the following steps:

    1. Click Add.

    2. Enter the Parameter Name and Parameter Value you would like to match in the specified page URL.

    3. Select whether the Parameter Value is a Text, Numeric, or Regular Expression value.

    4. Click OK.

    5. To edit existing parameters, select the parameter you want to edit, and click Edit.

    6. To remove existing parameters from the filter list for this profile, select the parameter to be deleted and click Delete.

  8. Click Finish.
